TYFA volunteers are people just like you who have joined together in the common bond of supporting trans and gender variant children and their families.
There are currently three ways in which you can volunteer your support to the work of TYFA on behalf of trans children and their families. These areas are:
- Public Advocate (PA)
- Support Advocate (SA)
- TYFA Ally (TA)
TYFA Public Advocates (PA’s) are proactive in their efforts on behalf of the rights of gender variant and gender questioning children on a public level. This may include speaking at seminars, legislative hearings, LGBTQI/civil rights/human rights events and rallys, schools, in the media, etc. It also may include being an open and available resource for individuals, organizations and agencies in need of someone who can educate and inform their constituencies on the mission of TYFA .
Public Advocates are from all walks of life: Parents, Family, Friends, Teachers, Physicians, Therapists, Clergy, TransYouth, Transgender Adults, etc.
TYFA Support Advocates (SA’s) work behind the scenes gathering information specific to their region, state, city or town with regards to potentially supportive officials, professionals, services, etc.
Support Advocates are often a parent or family member of a trans, gender variant or gender questioning child who out of concern for their child’s anonymity does not wish to be “out” within their community, but still want to make a contribution to advocating for the rights of their child and others like them.
Support Advocates can also be anyone who does not wish to be in the public eye, but would like to contribute to the mission of TYFA.
TYFA Allies (TA’s) are people and organizations who are supportive of trans, gender variant and gender questioning children and their families and can uphold the mission of TYFA. An ally is someone upon whom the organization depends to be a consistent witness, expert or other professional representative who will not only endorse the message and mission of TYFA, but will do so unequivocally.
